Margaret has long been an advocate of responsible government and fiscally conservative budgeting. Early in her first term, she pushed for transparency and was successful at getting the council agendas and packets online. More recently, she was successful at having the checkbook placed online. Her efforts were recognized when the Kalamazoo Citizens For Responsible Government recognized the City of Portage as one of two governmental units with 4 out of 4 stars for transparency. "The citizens of Portage deserve to know how their money is being used."
