Issues Facing Michigan

Jobs:  We need to turn Michigan's economy around by creating a better business climate. I will work to reduce burdensome taxes and regulations that send our jobs out of our state.

Tax Reform:  We need to find a better way to fund essential government services. We need to overhaul our tax structure, not merely change it by moving numbers around as we did with the Michigan Business Tax. We are not competitive with surrounding states because of our complicated business tax structure. It is expensive to do business in Michigan when we look at all the taxes and fees a business must pay. It needs to be simpler and easier to do business here. I will work to lower the tax burden on all of us.

Fiscal Responsibility:  I will be a good steward of your tax dollars. As a small business owner, I understand how to budget and how to make painful cuts during difficult times. I understand the negative consequences we experience when our taxes increase. I will make the tough decisions

Education:  I will advocate for children getting a solid education in the public, private and home school systems. I will fight to maintain parental control for their children's education.

Energy:  We must continue to provide opportunities for all sources of energy to compete.

"Getting The Job Done"

During my past 7 years on the Portage City Council, I have worked to improve our community. I fought for property owner rights, challenging the street special assessment process. I worked with business owners, helping them to expand and address unfair taxation processes. I introduced transparency in government, resulting in more documents being placed online and more public forums for public feedback. I worked to protect our community and environment through common sense measures. I advocated on behalf of our community to secure necessary funding. I have a solid record of getting the job done and I want to continue to successfully fight on your behalf. I want to earn your vote on August 3rd!
