Thank you everyone for your generous support, love and friendship. Growing up on the farm as the 3rd child of a dad with a fifth grade education and a mom with a high school diploma, I never dreamed of being involved in politics. Rather, we were taught to work hard and value God, family and community.
Today, I am here as your next State Representative in the 61st District. This is such an honor and I am truly humbled. So many of you have played a significant role in my life- you encouraged me to dream the impossible, you gave me your blunt honesty, you helped me on my campaigns, you prayed for my family, you joined our team. I wish I could name you all, but you know who you are. I would like to recognize God for being the source of my strength and my redeemer. I would like to thank my family- husband Nick and children Samantha and Tyjon. You put up with all a campaign throws at us, and you stood tall. My kids- You helped me on days you would rather sleep in. You understood I could not attend all of your events. To Nick- you are my rock, and you have taken on so many responsibilities so I could play a role in returning Michigan to greatness. And to my brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles- you toughened me up for this world of politics and have given unconditional love.
The win tonight was a team effort, and together, we will turn our state around. I trust that all of you will continue to play a role in reshaping our state and providing me with your input. The win has been secured, but the work has only just started. We must fight for policies that allow job creation, that creates a level playing field and that lets we the people of Michigan be successful. The work will be hard in Lansing, but we can do it. We will take the impossible and make it reality. Michigan will again be a leader in our nation.
Finally, I am truly thankful for your support, and I look forward to working with you and serving you.
Humbly,
Margaret
